Cathy Shine has documented Hawaiian Islands since 1976. She has traveled as far north as Hanalei, on Kauai's north shore, to South Point, not only the southern most part of Hawaii, but of the United States. Her documentation of this land began at the time that her children were infants and this passion is her ongoing quest. Her photographs of forgotten scenes and now historical memories depict life on one of Earth's most spectacular and scared terrain. All photographs are hand-processed in Cathy's darkroom, hand spotted and sepia-toned by individual effort. All images are produced in the traditional concept and not digitally captured or enhanced. All photos are burned, dodged and printed on fiber based paper (now approaching extinction), that demonstrates thirty years of devotion to her craft. Cathy Shine's photographs are appreciated pieces of art.
